Day 1, USFSP
First day of class went "swimmingly"! we started the day off with a small introduction on what life in the open ocean is like. One thing that stuck with me was the difference between holoplankton, plankton that are plankton for their entire lives and meroplankton that are only plankton for the first part of their lives. A plankton is an organism that does not move using its own power but is carried by the currents. After class we headed to Fort Desoto for some inter-tidal collections. Collecting fish was amazing; we caught hundreds of fish with the seine net, ranging from file fish to lancelets. It was a good and I cant wait for tomorrow!
