Florida Keys Expedition
The week of June 16th through the 22nd was amazing.  The keys were so beautiful and unique,in their own way, compared to some of the other locations we have visited. The various habitats and the diversity of organisms that live there were astounding.  I had known that coral reefs housed one of the most productive ecosystems but seeing it with my own eyes is something I know I will remember for the rest of my life.
This week we learned about seagrass beds, mangrove forests, macroalgae dominant habitats, hard bottom habitats, patch reefs, and coral reefs.  They all vary in dominant primary production and environmental influences. We also learned about commonly found fish, corals, seagrasses, and marcroalgae in southern Florida. In addition we learned about the history of the Keys as well as commonly found trees in they Keys.
Now we are about to start our final week in Jacksonville at the University of North Florida and I can't wait to see what this weeks has in store for us!
