The first day at FGCU we got to learn some geology with Dr. Muller which was really exiting to look at the the different ways that Estero Bay could have formed over the last 3000-5000 years. We went out and learned how to take a core sample which we then brought back and examined at the lab. We were able to see stratification in the cores and learned the different ways to determine what might have caused each layer of stratification. Then on day two me and four other students went out with Dr. David and used a CTD to measure salinity, temperature, and depth at different stations throughout the Estero Bay. My word of the day would be partially mixed residual circulation, which I learned means that the salt water coming in from the tidal wave and the fresh water moving down from the river is still some what stratified and is therefore is partially mixed.
