Day 2, USFSP

Yesterday was a long day out on the water. We left at 12pm and didn't get back until 3:30am. We spent the first four hours trying not to get sea sick, but once we reached our first station things picked up. We caught many cool organisms and spent most of out time identifying and recording them. I think the coolest organism we caught was the batfish. This fish was built to blend in with benthic areas and feeds on polycheates, crustaceans and other fish. One word that I learned from this trip was nueston, which means organisms that float on the surface of the water. We captured and preserved these organisms using a neuston net during our voyage. Depending on the weather, we are going to head back out tomorrow morning for another day of collection.
