Florida Keys Marine Laboratory!

What an incredible location! Moments after arriving at FKML we unpacked and decided to try our luck at snorkeling right out of the backyard! We saw an insane amount of spiny lobster and all sorts of different fish. The bottom here is a soft sediment seagrass mixed with some large coral heads. It was really cool.

So far we have snorkeled every day since being here. Over all each day we see more and more cool things. On the second day we were able to collect a few specimens for closer observation. My partner Ken and I found all sorts of sea stars and emerald crabs among the seagrass beds. The coolest thing I saw, by far, was a very small larval lobster! It was awesome to see one so small.

Our catch: Mostly algae!

Our two captains, Bill and Cindy, were awesome guides! They knew where all of the good spots were.
Our Boat: The Diodon

So far our time here has been amazing! Dr. Dennis Hanisak and Dr. Joshua Voss have been most informative. I have learned so much about identifying fish, coral, and algae!  I am not looking forward to leaving but I know that our journey must continue on.
