Open Ocean Week Underway!

Hi everyone!  Today was the first day for me to meet the FIO student group-- got started early with some background information on open oceans, biodiversity, and marine research.  "Why do we go out to sea to conduct research?  What benefits have we found by doing this type of work?"  These were just a couple of questions that we discussed as we got the day started.  We also went to Ft. Desoto to study a low energy beach system to practice sampling techniques.  We became familiar with field guides and the organisms that live out there.

Tomorrow we are headed out to sea-  Packing gear at 11am and departing at noon.  Weather looks good so far- we will be dodging rain all week long, hasn't stopped us yet!
