Deadliest Catch: Research Edition!

On Wednesday we were able to meet the fabulous Dr. Scott, plankton extraordinaire! His expertise made it so easy for us to correctly identify all of the plankton samples that we collected from our research cruise on Tuesday. Jessica and I learned that the majority of the plankton are made up of a species called Lucifer faxoni; a type of holoplankton that looks similar to a little shrimp.
On Thursday we had to unload and clean up the research vessel. However, we had to do it in the POURING rain! Tropical storm Andrea threw a kink into our plans for leaving the dock that day, so in lieu of  boating Dr. Judkins was able to get us into the Florida Aquarium to look at the different habitats of Florida.
The aquarium was amazing! We got to run around and complete a scavenger hunt like we were in elementary school all over again. It was very fun. We also learned all about ethnograms, which are the behavioral study of animals. The animal I chose to do mine on was the Brown Pelican.
